Hey Mac Families,
Happy Mother's Day!
Whether you are a mother, a mother figure, or someone who mothers children of any age, we are giving you the BIGGEST SHOUT OUT imaginable this weekend (and really, all year-round... but I digress... )!!!
I was chatting with my friend (and amazing fellow mom, AND my awesome MK assistant) recently about all of the things we do as moms that our families may not even know about, as we were both planning graduation parties this month, and it got me thinking. And you KNOW I love a list....
THINGS MOMS DO THAT LARGELY GO UNNOTICED BUT WOULD BE VERY MISSED IF THEY WENT UNDONE!
Moms...
- Make sure that kids don't leave the house with a birds' nest in the back of their head. At least most of the time.
- Keep snacks in their bag for those times when their kids MUST HAVE food or they will just keel over. Or to keep them occupied.
- Always have a bandaid. Or a bandaid equivalent.
- Provide distractions for their children from their bag of tricks, toys, and tips that they always keep within an arm's reach.
- Make those doctor and dentist appointments that keep our kids (and a lot of the time, partner's) bodies in tip top shape.
- Research their kids' friends (and their families) to make sure they're not hoodlums. Or whiners, because nobody likes a whiner.
- Always have a wipe, or a tissue, or a scrap piece of paper to store boogers, used gum, or to dry tears.
- Whip up a class snack at midnight after being told it was needed five minutes ago by a sleepy (and clearly, forgetful) kid.
- Make mom friends so that their kids can have playdates together. Even with THAT mom.
- Are able to come up with a perfect gift for the birthday party that everyone forgot was this afternoon.
- Keep track of who needs to be where, and when.... AND get them there. It may not be pretty, but it happens.
- Learn their kids' likes and dislikes, their personalities, and their sleep habits. And their triggers. Can't forget those triggers.
- Make necessary but un-fun decisions and graciously take the heat from angry children who don't hold back because mom is their "safe space". Well, graciously MOST of the time. Just me?
- Interviews babysitters, nannies, preschools, daycares... and basically anyone else who might be around to influence their kiddo.
- Plan parties, send out invites for parties, shop for parties, execute parties, and clean up after parties.
- Carries groceries, a toddler, a purse, a drink, and keys, all at the same time... and unlocks the front door with ease without dropping a single thing. Or human.
- Are teachers, grammar police officers, artists, hair stylists, dentists, chauffeurs, doctors, chefs, cleaners, caregivers, secretaries, shoppers, representatives, advocates, and more.
Now, I know that there are dads, spouses, partners, grandparents, nannies, etc, who may also do these things, and we are truly grateful for their participation in this parenting journey. But this weekend, we are celebrating moms!
(So don't come at me! LOL!)
So, Mac KID Moms, I hope that you get to take a break from doing all those things and do something that makes you happy on Mother's Day! You deserve it (and SO much more!).
Peace ☮️, Love ❤️, & Macaroni 🌼,
Christen
